ABOUT

The challenge:
How do you make data interesting? The power and potential of AI is hard to communicate and bringing complicated data analytics ‘to life’ is often visualized with overused imagery of computer brains and nodal networks. Our challenge was to evoke a new imagination around an original and meaningful identity for abstract technology.

The shift:
The true possibilities of AI comes from the synergy of human and machine – a hybrid intelligence beyond the sum of its parts. Instead of imposing a creative treatment, we wanted Quantum Black’s data to inform it.

Collaborating with AI artist and researcher Sougwen Chung who creates art in tandem with programmed robot arms and the synthesis of massive datasets, she conceives paintings of great beauty and intricacy where it is impossible to determine her strokes from that of her machine partners.

Quantum Black’s visual identity is not about a single image, it’s a story of imagination, so capturing Sougwin’s process through a series of minimalistic portraits and an immersive documentary allowed for a narrative to be realised around mastering the art of Hybrid Intelligence.
