ABOUT
Challenge:
How do you promote the adoption of a cutting-edge and ever-evolving diverse set of digital tools? Furthermore, how do you do so in a compelling way that can be adopted by a community of digital creators and be translated into multiple languages?
Digital Public Goods (DPGs) are open-source resources that nations, cities and governments can use to create a digital public infrastructure, driving economic growth and sustainable development.
Working with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Brunswick Creative were tasked with defining a narrative along with an open-source visual identity system that quickly educated and communicated the many benefits of adopting DPGs – in both French and English.
Idea:
We developed a visual system built from a suite of diverse icons, designed to represent a DPG. When pieced together the icons form a composition greater than the sum of its parts reflecting the modular and intercompatible nature of DPGs, as well as showing a digitally connected and healthy society. The campaign name, ‘DPGs Decoded’ aimed to demystify and simplify the technology. This was all brought to life in an animated explainer video and suite of open-source resources – such as a presentation deck, fact sheet and infographics.
Outcome:
The campaign was launched at the United Nations General Assembly and was extremely well received, with instant adoption by the DPG community. The open-source assets are hosted on the Digital Public Goods Alliance website, where the assets are available for anyone to download and use.
