ABOUT

A fan art project, based on the protagonist of the first Assassins Creed game, added with my personal preferences while I kept the overall art direction intact. Tho, my initial idea was an anime style character, i abandoned this in Zbrush as I was not satisfied with the result and thus changed it, but it is still visible in pictures of Marvelous Designer. The final model had singular 4k maps and a 51 thousand triangle game-res mesh.
This was a particularly challenging project for many reasons:
- this was my first time using Marvelous Designer, in which I created the base garments for the character on a dummy model - the remaining hard surface items were added in Maya, where i gave depth to the triangle based MD garments as well, which were later ZRemeshed in ZBrush, for optimal subdivision and sculpting
- I went to some length with the detailing of the character in ZBrush, resulting in a character, just above 80 million polygons and 64 subtools (and 20 minutes long autosaves on my notebook)
- I had 26 mesh sets exported from ZBrush after decimation to be retopologized in Topogun, UVd in Maya and the normal maps baked in Substance Designer
- also this was my first in-depth attempt at Substance Painter, which i enjoyed very much
- I also relied on photoshop to design and edit the textures which I used in conjunction with the Surface Noise in ZBrush to project even surface details onto the garments, as well as later, I used PS to mask the texture sets outputted by SP into a single texture
- I used Mixamo to auto-rig the character, which turned out pretty well for an automated process, confirming the usability of the game-res mesh.
- For the hair I used Nvidia Hairworks, with guide curves generated in Maya using Joe Alter`s Shave & Haircut
