ABOUT
“La Seta” translated from Italian means silk.
Silk is a natural protein fiber produced by certain insect larvae that form cocoons. The highest quality silk is obtained from the cocoons of the mulberry silkworm "Bombyx mori". Silk fiber is composed mainly of fibroin, and is marked by a
shimmering appearance. This phenomenon is observed due to its triangular prism-like structure which allows silk fiber to refract incoming light at different angles, resulting in the production of different colors. In addition to these natural properties, some forms of silk can be woven into textiles.
These unique properties of silk inspired the concept for La Setа. The design of this bio-vehicle replicates the triangular shapes and sharp lines of the fibers that connect to
the soft, round forms of the cocoon. The new car also combines the strength and incredible finish of silk, as well as its smoothness and light refraction properties. This
concept also directly utilizes silk in the visible layer of the bio-composite chassis, the body and interior of the vehicle.
Bio-composite materials are formed with a resin matrix and reinforced with natural fibers (usually derived from plants or cellulose). The designs of such products often
mimic the structures of the living materials involved, yet offer strength and bio-compatibility. The market for such products are constantly expanding, mainly due to
increasing prices of raw materials as well as growing environmental concerns.
La Seta is designed for the Mega City Regions, where compact vehicles and green technologies with low emissions are needed. This novel concept uses four electric hub
motors with toroidal coils, which delivers better efficiency in low volume and weight.
Electric rear wheel steering, OLED dashboard and lights, light weight and low power consumption elements are used, in addition to a bio-battery that is powered by
organic compounds, such as glucose. This innovative concept for power source mimics the way in which plants and animals obtain energy, and offers a new direction
towards a low carbon-print engine option.
The green technology of La Seta is inspired by nature and works with nature - to help preserve its purity for the future generations.
