Kartellet (The Cartel) was a feature film that I scored for in 2014. I was one of 11 composer selected to audition for it. It had an theatrical release and was the third largest grossing film for Denmark for that year. It opened to great critical acclaim and was nominated for the audience award for the Danish Oscars (Robert Festival).
There were many challenges in scoring this film, the biggest being that at that particular point in time, I was only semi fluent in Danish. Although everybody speaks fluent English in Denmark, in my own private experience, I know that when one has to talk creative, it can quickly become quite tiring if you are speaking another language. Still through it all, Charlotte was an amazing director who speaks the film language quite fluently and was a pleasure to work for.

Kartellet tells the true story of Lars Halbo who inherited his father's successful construction business. He discovered early on that the building sector in Denmark was rife with corruption and insider dealing. Long known for their mafioso tactics, the leaders in this community strove to control him,
All this happened while he and his wife experienced personal problems after, moving back to Denmark having lived abroad for many years.
