ABOUT
Over a 6 month period, editors, reporters, security experts and thought leaders from The Guardian and Silent Circle contributed articles and videos examining different aspects of privacy in the modern world. The Guardian created 5 videos to highlight these issues and our website needed a hub to hold them as well as an interactive quiz to test how secure your business was.
I was set a brief from the GLabs Creative Director to design both content areas. First task was the ensure our development team could bring the films through to the hub using Youtube and to make sure the subtitling could work in 5 different languages. Leaving them to it, I got going on some scamps for the interface after several UX and content discussions.
The quiz would be simpler to design and build (the slider bar would be a big challenge) and would need to feel consistent with the look of the video hub page. Playing with the look and feel, I am a huge fan of varying shades of grey with one strong, bright dominant colour. This time I went for a salmon pink which also worked very well with black. The videos would be released 1 a week and as the subject was about privacy online, I thought using a pixelated effect on images for the yet unreleased videos would be a clever addition.
For the 'The power of privacy' top banner, I designed a search bar with the animated heading typing in. This was a simple GIF but very effective. With the design finalised, our development team went to task but this proved to be quite a straightforward build and after weeks of testing both the video hub and the quiz went live. The clients, Silent Circle were hugely impressed with campaign and we received great feedback.
