ABOUT

I was commissioned to make a brightly colourful illustration showcasing events across the borough during the summer season and the jubilee. The largest of which was the Mile Long Street Party produced by Artillery in collaboration with Jessica Hudsley Events. The brief was to make something fun and lively that worked across a huge range of different media (inc posters, lamppost wraps, banners, social media, booklets), to include some of LBWF's brand colours, to represent the events taking place in the draft programme, to consider republican leaning members of the community whilst also acknowledging the jubilee, to ensure that the diversity of the borough is reflected and also for a slight festival vibe. My concept was to make an illustration in sections that could be taken to pieces and slotted back together in different ways to work with the different proportions necessary. Referencing the acts and events taking place I came up with quirky characters and decorative elements to give a celebratory feel. I made a sketch in pencil then worked digitally to make the final work, transferring from Photoshop, which I used to draw and paint, to Illustrator, which I used to composite and draw backgrounds. The deadline was tight but it all came together in two weeks. The graphic design firm Big Kid did a great job on typography and layout and the final work was seen across the borough.
