ABOUT

A variable typeface that I designed for the city of Lincoln. The street Steep Hill got its name because it is exactly that, first used by residents when the city was called Lindum Colonia when the Roman inhabitants decided to expand the settlement down the hill. This street separates the old from the new, at the bottom of the hill you will find bars, modern restaurants and shops. The further up the hill you go the older and more traditional everything becomes, from tea rooms, artisans, even whiskey and toffee makers. I saw it fit to use this location as my reference, as mentioned at the start of this challenge, I aimed to reference the old and the new. I wanted my design to reflect the old and the new, whilst highlighting the packed city, I have done this by squishing the typeface together. By incorporating Serif features at the top of the letters, I have represented the old.
