Interviews can make even the most confident people nervous, but the best way to succeed is through preparation. Here’s our interview tips for preparing for a great interview…
Plan your Travel
Check out the location on Google Maps and use ‘Street View’ to familiarise yourself with the building and it’s surroundings. Look at public transport times and plan your journey, adding in extra time for any delays. Also look at alternative routes / transport options in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
Do Your Research
Look at the company’s website and social media channels and take note of their recent activities. Read and highlight the jobs specification, picking out key words, skills and characteristics that are important to the company. Then think of examples of how you fit these particular criteria. Make sure you know the answers to these questions:
- What do they do?
- Who are their customers?
- What is their company mission/business goal?
- What is the company dynamic?
- Who is your interviewer and what do they do?
- How will you fit into the company structure?
You want to arrive at the company 10 minutes prior to your interview. If you arrive any earlier take some time to freshen up, review your notes and prepare. First impressions do count, so make sure you’re dressed appropriately for the company dynamic and greet your interviewer with a smile and a strong handshake.

In the interview
Make sure that you appear enthusiastic and positive, speak clearly and make eye contact. Refer to examples of core competencies (leadership, communication, organisation etc) and don’t make negative comments about previous employers, slouch or fidget. You want to appear well-rounded and confident.
