Drawing on a reference to a “bug hunt” in the “Aliens” film, I rigged a game mesh in Maya and applied my own iridescent material using Arnold renderer to make the eponymous creature reminiscent of an insect, albeit one with two sets of chrome teeth.

I was inspired by the Jewel Wasp, which, like the species in the film, has a nasty habit of appropriating the bodies of living creatures to use as hosts for its offspring. The Jewel Wasp (Ampulex compressa) paralyzes a cockroach and deposits its eggs in it. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae feed on the internal organs, eating them in considered order to maximize the “shelf life” of the roach and its nutrients, beginning with the least vital organs and finishing with the most essential ones.
