ABOUT
This shoot was to coincide with the V&A exhibit of the History of the Kimono, teamed with the Kimono popup shop in the Beyond Retro Dalston store. I chose singer Cream with a K, as the model because she lived in Japan for many years, has an in-depth knowledge and collection of Kimonos, and has a strong fanbase in Japan. Using Cream with a K's knowledge and styling the kimono's in a relaxed way, we aimed to avoid any cultural appropriation problems that may arise from a white model wearing a traditional Japanese garment. I'm really happy with the end result; the location, styling, makeup, and model work together beautifully to show the appreciation of the garments.
