ABOUT
The Menai shopping centre in Bangor were promoting six new units to be let within the complex. A re-brand was already underway; deliverables included an updated sales brochure, directory boards and window decals to promote the new units to prospective retailers. We discussed the clients needs and I presented a few concepts to them, including an illustrative option; but they felt certain that a lifestyle route was the way forward. and needed a design solution that blended with the new brand. I opted for a mix of leisure, retail and socialising images, using fitness shots for the upper level as there is soon to be, a new fitness centre opened. I also made sure that the window decals had enough clear space for potential retailers to see in and get a feel for the spaces advertised.
The key to the success of this project was communication, scale and accuracy - I did not visit the site and was dependant on the client, site managers and print company for dimensions and viability etc.. Apart from project managing so many variables, the trickiest part was the design of the upper level window decals which included several window mullions dividing up the space. The task at hand was to create a design that worked with the mullions and didn't interfere with text or images. This involved getting dimensions for each individual window and creating a series of artboards, taking care to line up the design accurately. The result was great and the client was over the moon with the outcome, with high praise for my project management skills in particular.
