I've often been tasked with that I rebuilding artwork from very messy design files. This is a normal process as far as my experience has found. The design process needs space to try out ideas and change layouts quickly and this often leads to a file that has lots of issues that could cause problems if sent to print as is.

Having said that, here are some example double page spreads for an instore magazine for 3 Mobile Ireland where text and imagery needed to be cleaned up, low resolution elements replaced and all the colours and details checked over before it can be sent to to the printers.
