ABOUT

Concept
The Oceanário de Lisboa, a prominent institution in marine biology education and ocean conservation, aimed to transform its store to align more closely with its mission of sustainability. The challenge was to redesign the store’s concept and decoration to reflect the organization’s commitment to sustainable practices and its raison d’être of protecting ocean life.

Execution
During the consultation phase, the concept titled “Now you Sea me / Now you Don’t” was developed, inspired by the natural camouflage ability found in marine life. The store was envisioned as an extension of the magical experience visitors had at the Oceanário, enriching it from both an emotional and sensory perspective. The idea was to create a space where visitors would be encouraged to explore and discover, with every aspect of the store – from the layout to the product offerings – reflecting an ethos of discovery. The store featured areas for reading and sharing knowledge, as well as integrated retail and restaurant spaces, all designed to subtly reveal their purpose, requiring attention to detail and promoting a deeper connection with ocean conservation.

Results
The store transformation successfully embodied the Oceanário’s mission of sustainability, reinforcing its values through design, atmosphere, and product selection. Visitors engaged more deeply with the experience, enhancing their awareness of ocean conservation. This innovative approach resulted in a successful balance between education, emotional connection, and commercial appeal, driving both visitor satisfaction and sales.
