REQUALIFICATION OF “PIAZZA DELL’ISOLOTTO” AND DESIGN OF NEW CIVIC MARKET ROOFING.
The goal set by Firenze’s city council for the redesign of piazza dell’isolotto was to transform it into a public space which combines high architectural quality with the capacity to become a great link to the existing infrastructure.
Focusing attention on the orientation of the existing landmarks’ location and the traditional Tuscany pattern is leitmotif and source of inspiration for the redesign of piazza dell’isolotto. A continuous carpet connects the main church , the
market and the parking area to the Arno river. A tectonic movement allows the creation of a free and continuous open space which connects different heights without steps. However, some steps are designed like urban furniture, for example benches.
Furthermore, a random flowerbed system makes the square design more dynamic.
