ABOUT
I was privilaged to be asked by Adrian Ting of CNI to conceive and design a luxury publishing magazine featuring Suzy’s reports for Vogue online.
The third book, "Suzy Menkes, 1000 Posts in Vogue" was produced to coincide with the CNI Luxury Fashion conference in Oman April 2017. The project had grown exponentially with advertising revenues from Chanel and Gucci. I commissioned US Illustrator Stephen Campbell to “Stitch” a fashion scenario cover. The calico illustration was then scanned and printed on textured paper to mirror the importance of texture, fabric and brass-roots-stitching of the fashion industry on which Suzy reports.
The content of 1000 posts in Vogue was indeed Suzy’s online work for Vogue online With Editor Katia Hadidian and Managing Editor Stephanie Halfmann we established four emerging themes that became the basis of the work: Connections, Collections, Candour and Confidences. We then brought the posts to life with stunning images and expertly edited links and features.
I developed the design keeping the feature font I used for "Suzy" branding developed in earlier issues and adding complementary typefaces. I oversaw the production and researched the print. An opening page was created for each section with a specific colour scheme which served as a more detailed contents page. I then threaded those colours through the section as an accent device and folio treatment. The design is buoyant and no two pages are the same although the column grids give the pages constant form. The book featured Instagram pages for bite-size nuggets of information and featuring Suzy’s own photography and an insight into her unique life and work.
