Concept:

The project: Visual identity and packaging design for In Limbo Pt. 1, the first part of a two-album cycle by The Lotus Matter. The release is structured as a continuous narrative spanning two LPs, with Part 2 completing the conceptual and visual system at a later stage.
The core idea behind the design is incompleteness as structure — reflecting the idea that the work only resolves once both records are experienced together.
The cover image of a Möbius strip is intentionally constructed as a split photograph, where only half of the image is revealed in Part 1, with the second half completing the composition in Part 2. The photography itself was provided by a collaborator of the band and was used as the foundation for the visual system.

Execution:

Design approach: Restraint and continuity, allowing the concept to drive the visual language.
Key elements included:
1. Development of a two-part visual system across both LPs
2. Compositional treatment of a single photograph split across releases
3. Typographic and layout consistency across packaging components
4. Creation of a modular system adaptable for both parts of the release cycle
5. Integration of music narrative into physical packaging structure
The packaging was designed to function both independently and as a pair with the second release.

Results:

The final output establishes a cohesive visual identity that extends beyond a single album format, instead operating as a design system across the two physical releases.
The project creates a direct visual correlation between music structure and packaging structure, reinforcing the conceptual intent of the work.
