ABOUT
Concept:
Side Effects II is a multi-part music festival identity system created for Sound Effect Records in Athens, Greece, coinciding with the label’s 21st anniversary.
The festival brought together bands operating in the psychedelic and psychedelic-adjacent spectrum, many of whom are also part of the label’s roster. The visual identity was developed as a unified system across all festival communication and physical outputs, rather than a collection of separate deliverables.
The core idea behind the system is consistency through transformation: A single artwork adapted across all applications, shifting in color, structure, and composition depending on medium and festival day (Day 1 / Day 2 / combined ticket format).
Execution:
I developed and executed the entire visual identity system across all festival applications, spanning print, digital communication, and ticketing materials (posters, flyers, press releases, web and Facebook event banners).
The system was designed as a modular framework where a single core artwork was adapted for:
1. Festival posters and promotional print materials
2. Web banners used across major Greek music platforms
3. Ticket design (single-day and two-day passes)
4. Physical event collateral and signage
5. Flexi disc packaging for the soundtrack release
Color variations were used to differentiate festival days while maintaining a unified visual language across the system.
All artwork and visual assets were created by me, with no external photography or design input, ensuring full authorship over the identity system.
Soundtrack Component - Side Effects Theme:
As part of the festival identity system, I composed, performed, recorded, and produced an original track titled Side Effects Theme, designed to align with the sonic aesthetic of late 1960s / early 1970s psychedelic music, reflecting the label’s catalogue direction.
The track was released as a flexi disc and functions as both a standalone musical piece and a physical extension of the festival identity system.
The flexi disc was distributed as a gift to the first 100 ticket buyers and also sold during the festival, directly integrating sound, object, and event identity.
Results:
The identity system was deployed across a real, multi-day international festival featuring both Greek and international acts (including Germany and Israel), held at Gagarin 205 in Athens and organized in collaboration with Viva.
The system unified all festival communication under a single visual logic while adapting dynamically across formats and audiences. It functioned as both a promotional framework and a physical design object integrated into the event experience.
The project was publicly promoted across major Greek music media platforms and online publications, with the identity system used consistently across press, web, and on-site materials.
