ABOUT
Promotional video for a fictitious art gallery called tokyo:ocean that wanted to show a series of avant garde films as part of one of its temporary exhibitions.
For this film I was interested in experimenting with how people interpret sound and music differently and how this could be shown in a film. I gave a number of participants a range of black and white shapes that were cut out (circles, squares and lines). I then asked them to listen to the soundtrack and arrange the shapes how they heard it. They could have done this in any way; they could represent the beat, pattern, style or create something that the music makes them think of. The choice was entirely up to them.
The final film is a stop motion animation incorporating all the arrangements of the different shapes people created whilst listening to the soundtrack.
