About me
Gemma is a first-class Arts and Master of Education graduate who made the transition to the creative industry two years ago after more than a decade of teaching in and leading school transformation within post 16 education.
Since then she has been a trailblazer in PR and Marketing alongside the CMO at AKQA producing global events and launching digital campaigns. She has been named in The Dots 2021 list Inspiring Change, and has been invited to judge the Future Lions award in partnership with Cannes International Festival of Creativity and judge the For Good and Student awards at the New York Advertising Festival.
Gemma is playing a significant part in leading change within diversity development of the creative sector, championing the value of creativity rather than education or background as a route to success. She has written the people strategy to elevate those who identify as women by developing high profile Thought Leadership opportunities and prioritising industry talent awards. Gemma has also launched the global mentoring campaign within AKQA, developed international outreach for young people outside of traditional education and successfully campaigned for removing the barrier that allows only students to enter the Future Lions competition, something which had been in place for 14 years. She is also a steering group member of the Bath University Employer Forum.
Outside of work, Gemma volunteers at both the British Museum and the Zoological Society London, where she champions broadening access to public education of cultural artifacts that celebrate female history and the development of awareness for wildlife conservation.
Gemma plans to continue to use her role within PR and Marketing to create a more diverse and representative industry, by being a role model and advocating for those who seek to make their way within the creative sector.
