DARE is a one-to-one personal training studio based in Bentleigh, Melbourne, built around tailored coaching, individual support, and helping people move forward at their own pace.

DARE had already been active across social media, regularly showing up for its audience and keeping the studio visible within the local community. The next opportunity was to build on that presence with a more coordinated campaign approach, creating a stronger narrative that could generate momentum, deepen emotional connection, and give people a clearer sense of what DARE stands for.

Rather than simply promoting services or individual updates, the aim was to create a social-first campaign that could challenge perceptions, build awareness, and communicate the human side of the studio in a more memorable way.

Come As You Are was developed as an inclusive campaign platform designed to express what has always been true about DARE: it is a training studio for real people at every stage of their journey. The campaign invited people to see DARE not as an elite or intimidating gym, but as a supportive personal training environment where every goal, every body, and every starting point is welcome.

Concept

The core idea behind Come As You Are was simple: you do not need to be ready before you begin.

Many people feel they need to look a certain way, feel a certain way, or reach a certain level of confidence before stepping into a gym. This campaign set out to challenge that barrier directly.

DARE wanted to communicate that personal training is not just for people who are already fit, driven, or gym-confident. It is for anyone who wants to make a change, rebuild confidence, improve strength, create healthier habits, or simply take the first step.

The campaign was built around the belief that every person arrives with their own story, their own obstacles, and their own reason for wanting to move forward. DARE’s role is to listen, understand, and create a tailored programme that supports each individual journey.

Come As You Are became a message of reassurance, encouragement, and invitation. It moved the brand away from performance-led fitness clichés and towards something more human, more inclusive, and more emotionally resonant.

The campaign positioned DARE as a place where progress begins with honesty, not perfection.


Execution

The campaign was created as a coordinated social media and awareness campaign, rolled out over a period of two months across digital, print, out-of-home, web, and in-studio touchpoints.

Using DARE’s existing brand colours, the visual language was adapted into a distinct campaign system. The aim was to create something that still felt connected to the DARE brand, but had enough visual distinction to feel like a focused campaign moment. Strong typographic statements, confident portrait-led imagery, and a bold purple campaign accent were used to create consistency and recognition across every format.

To support the inclusive message of Come As You Are, the campaign used portraits of relatable people across a spectrum of age groups and life stages. This helped communicate that DARE is not speaking to one narrow idea of fitness, but to a wider audience of individuals with different starting points, goals, and motivations.

The portrait style was deliberately aspirational, but not unrealistic. The people featured were shown in reflective, self-believing moments, expressions that suggested thought, possibility, courage, and personal determination. These images helped place the individual at the centre of the campaign, making the message feel less like a generic fitness promotion and more like an invitation into a personal journey.

A framing structure became a key part of the campaign’s graphic language. Visually, the frame focused attention on the person and the message, creating a sense of clarity and emphasis across each composition. Conceptually, it reinforced the idea that every individual has their own story, their own space, and their own potential. The frame helped contain the portrait and typography in a consistent system, while giving each execution a strong editorial quality.

The campaign included a series of static social posts, video reels, pinned Instagram content, Facebook assets, website updates, digital banners, posters, billboards, and in-gym print applications. This allowed the message to live beyond social media and become part of the physical environment around the studio.

Out-of-home posters and billboards were used to create immediate visibility and intrigue, while the social content carried the deeper campaign narrative. Each touchpoint worked together to build a consistent message: DARE is not a place you need to prepare yourself for. It is a place that meets you where you are.

The copywriting played a key role in shaping the tone of the campaign. Rather than focusing on transformation clichés or aggressive fitness language, the messaging was warm, direct, and empowering. Lines such as Come As You Are, Your Space to Shine, Be Proud of Who Walked In, and Not Just Where You Train, But Where You Remember Who You Are gave the campaign a strong emotional voice while keeping the message accessible and uplifting.

The result was a campaign that felt confident without being intimidating, aspirational without being exclusive, and motivating without relying on pressure or perfection.


Result

Come As You Are helped DARE shift from reactive social media content into a more strategic, recognisable, and emotionally engaging campaign approach.

The campaign created a stronger perception of DARE as a welcoming and professional personal training studio that genuinely cares about people and their individual journeys. It helped broaden the appeal of the brand by challenging the idea that personal training is only for elite or highly confident gym-goers.

By coordinating social media, website updates, out-of-home advertising, print, and in-studio touchpoints, DARE was able to create a more unified presence across its community. The campaign generated greater awareness, stronger recognition, and a clearer understanding of what the studio stands for.

More importantly, it gave DARE a campaign model that proved the value of planned, narrative-led content over isolated reactive posts. It showed that a personal training brand could connect more meaningfully with its audience by leading with empathy, inclusivity, and a clear point of view.

The campaign helped strengthen DARE’s reputation, support community engagement, attract wider interest, and reinforce the studio’s value as a place where people are not judged by where they begin, but supported in where they want to go.
