After development of the Xenon embedded media player was complete, I helped the iPlayer team integrate it into iPlayer which brought with it a number of significant improvements:

Media load times have been halved
Video scrub times are now 3-4 times faster
Toggling between SD and HD is now 3-4 times faster
Subtitles load times are improved tenfold down from 30-40 seconds to just 3-4 seconds

When these savings are applied to the platform’s usage statistics, the results are that Xenon saves the country almost 1,700 hours per week or 9.9 years per year.
