ABOUT

Arc is a self-initiated concept by Futurewave, a Belgium-based creative product studio integrating industrial design, electronics, and embedded software.

CONCEPT
If luxury is built on permanence and technology on obsolescence, what does an object that belongs to both look like? Attention is spent without ever being decided on, and every remedy so far has lived on the same screen that took it. Arc moves the answer off the screen and onto the body: an open torc bracelet in Argentium silver that gives the wearer back their attention.

EXECUTION
The wearer sets one threshold once, for example,e 30 minutes of screen time across chosen apps. When it is crossed, a pulse travels through the silver into the wrist. If attention holds, a second pulse follows, then Arc goes quiet. No screen, no app to check, no score, no data kept.

The form reinterprets the torc, among the oldest jewels in Europe: rounded volumes flow along a single curving line, with no clasp or hinge. Form references included ribcages, wishbones, and seed pods. Form studies were 3D printed, prototypes made in stainless steel and titanium, and the final piece shell cast in Argentium silver.

Inside: piezoelectric haptics for a clean pulse, an ONiO zero low-power microcontroller with Bluetooth Low Energy, a curved 25 mAh cell with piezoelectric energy harvesting, and a flexible circuit hidden in the curve of the shank.

RESULTS
A connected object where the technology is a guest. No electronics are visible from the outside, and when they one day stop, Arc remains a bracelet worth wearing. Arc opens a new direction for Futurewave at the meeting point of luxury, wearables, and calm technology.
