Incorporating a system referred to by the designer as “Kelvin Energy Recovery” (KERS), the Bedside Table Light uses a Compact Fluorescent Bulb (CFL) to charge a separate LED light, that switches on only when no light is present (when the CFL is switched off) acting as a secondary nightlight. The small emissions of Ultra Violet light produced by the CFL, is collected by a solar panel, housed underneath the lid of the cylinder, which stores the excess generated electricity in a rechargeable battery pack located at the base of the lamp.
The interpretation of efficiency went beyond electrical efficiency and exploited cost effective materials and manufacturing processes to produce the final result. Its shade consists entirely of painted PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) piping and its inner Shade / Mesh, which is a heat sink and a light diffuser, consists of black paper. The base of the lamp consists of sectioned Plywood, which offers enough space to house the various components required to operate it.
