Fashion themed photography uploads this month will almost certainly push the Fotolia portfolio over the 31 million photo mark. When selling in a marketplace so full of photos, meeting user demands during fashion month is essential if the contributor is to achieve commercial success.

The Internet, printed fashion media and microstock platforms are full of the finished product – images depicting the models, the catwalks and the collections in their prime state. Glossy, perfect, complete. Our customer feedback however shows increased demand for visual depictions of the design process. Sequences of images showing the design and creation method behind the finished product have proved increasingly popular over previous fashion months.

This gallery for example has proved successful due to its visual encapsulation of the entire creation process from start to finish. A key benefit of uploading an image sequence or ‘storyline’ is that the probability of making multiple sales across the range of images is increased – one photograph compliments the next.
