July’s TEN Design Contest was themed around “Sports in the future” and attracted a host of talented artists. Coming out on top was Hiroki Ogasawara, an exceptional designer who has been inspired and attracted by TEN collections in the past. Amazingly, Hiroki does not consider himself an artist and mostly makes a career out of helping freelancers break into the creative community without the help of companies and organisations. Hiroki is a self-described marketing designer and blog adviser - he plans to release a book about Photoshop design in the next couple of months. Given his background, which is clearly more consultative, the technical strength and personality that shines through the work of this Japanese artist is phenomenal.
Hiroki’s stunning work combines futuristic themes of the urban metropolis, the constant forces of nature represented by the waves, and of course, surfing. The image has been seen as an exaggerated symbolic representation of how people live urban lives today suggesting that Hiroki sees chaos in the future. Representing societal trends, fashions, and challenges, the waves plough through the futuristic city with an almost dangerous force. Hiroki demonstrates that to avoid being alienated, and destroyed by such intense forces, the futuristic man must adapt and “Surf the waves” and adapt to get by in such a world.
Besides the conveyed messages about the importance to taking actions, and the meaning of challenge; we thought that the colours, light, and methodology behind the creation, made Hiroki’s creation a super cool image. He is surely deserving of our awesome prize. Check out Hiroki's blog here.
