2D MOTION GRAPHICS / 2D HAND DRAWN ANIMATION

OVERVIEW
To animate doodles and drawings for an Anglian Water campaign and enhance the commercial.

THE BRIEF
Alixe was hired by No. 8 London to add some quirky and unique hand-drawn animations to live action advertisements for their Anglian Water campaign.

THE CHALLENGE
Due to the short amount of time that we had to do the work in—a standard problem in advertising—our biggest hurdle was the delivery schedule.

THE SOLUTION
We worked on this concurrently to meet the tight deadline, and hired more animators to help in the process. We sent wips to the production promptly and used loops to save time when we could.

THE PROCESS
As we tend to do in any animation project we first work in animations tests (we used gif format to be quicker) and some stills samples to ensure that we were going in the correct direction. These were a big hit with the customer, so we immediately went on to the animation phase.

THE TECHNIQUE
The doodles were animated in Photoshop using frame-by-frame hand-drawn animation and a wonderful plugin called Timelord. With AfterFx and Mocha, we then tracked and integrated the animation.

Software: Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, Mocha, Timelord.

RESULTS
The main advertisement and the cutdowns were both delivered on time, and the customer was pleased with the images. This was a great campaign to be a part of and we always enjoy combining hand-drawn animation with more advanced digital after effects work.
