ABOUT
This year marks the 260th anniversary of the Govan Fair.
The fair, one of the longest-running popular festivals in Europe, attests to the historical significance of Govan as a place of kings, weavers, shipbuilders, philanthropists, social reformers, writers, Rab C Nesbitt & Mary Doll – and who could forget those other folk who comfae Govan? – Wor Kenny (Dalglish) and Fergie (Sir Alex Ferguson). Thousands will flock to the fair from Govan and all over Glasgow.
This year’s festivities, which start as usual on the first Friday in June (the 3rd this year), will once again see the emblematic sheep’s heid leading the procession of bands, floats, street performers and, of course, the newly-crowned Queen, through the streets of Govan. The event will wind-up on Sunday after the fair.
Fablevision Studios is once again producing the programme and working in conjunction with The Govan Fair Association to event manage this wonderful community occasion.
If you would like to participate in the event as a performer or volunteer, or you would like to make a donation, offer goods or services (as prizes), take a stall, or purchase advertising space in the programme, contact Ed on Tel. 0141 425 2020
