ABOUT

The Royal Fortress of Suceava is ranked as one of the most important historical sites in Romania. In 2016 we have successfully brought it to life by assembling the first ever permanent exhibition in its long history.
In Medieval Ages, the fortress played an important role both from a defensive and strategic point of view. Keeping this in mind, we created an exhibit concept that held on to the historical destination of the stronghold.
Following our idea, we put together an exposition that illustrates the military character of the location, certain medieval customs and also presents the citadel's history throughout the ages.
To better represent our concept and to bring a higher note of authenticity to the fortress, all the replicas that we created for this location were handmade. An impressive arsenal of arms and armors, siege weapons, cannons, garments, jewelry, ceramics, furniture, everything was done by hand with the help of several craftsmen and artists.
Furthermore, to make it more lively, we inhabited the fortress with ultra realistic mannequins that embody several important Moldavian characters form the Middle Ages, soldiers and artisans. The mannequins helped us to better display some of the replicas we've made: garments, armor and weapons. We were also able to put into play certain activities from those times: guard duty, crafting, dining and games.
History is ultimately a tale and by using the power of storytelling, visitors can better learn and understand the important events that took place here all through the years.
Therefore, besides a large number of informative panels, we also equipped the exhibit with many interactive systems and projections, that are intended to tell the stories of the fortress in a more attractive fashion. This new method of content delivery has a higher education value and a deeper immersive character than the classical methods of convening information.
From the twelve interactive systems installed inside the stronghold, six of them are national premieres. As a result, The Royal Fortress of Suceava, has currently become the museum that holds the largest number of interactive and informational systems in Romania.
The visitors are welcomed by Virtual Guides, placed in three rooms, that tell short stories about the fort's history, important figures of the time and medieval customs. The Virtual Guide system is accompanied by the Fortress's Chronicle, an illustrated and animated projection that shows key moments from the citadel's history and the wars that have been fought here.
A detailed account about 15th century Moldavia, as it was described by foreign travelers, is captured in the Interactive Book. Various aspects about day to day life in medieval times, are highlighted in over fifty pages that are hand illustrated, animated and accompanied by sound effects.
Stephen the third of Moldavia, more commonly known as Stephen the Great, was a pillar figure in Moldavian and Romanian history. By combining an interactive projection with a touch system, visitors can discover important personalities that lived in Europe during the time of Stephen the Great and also other castles contemporary with The Royal Fortress of Suceava during the XV and XVI centuries.
Learning and discovering new and unique things were our main goals for this exhibition, but we also wanted to add a little bit of fun to the tour. So, by means of augmented reality, the guests can try on several medieval garments. For example, they can get dresses, in real time, as a knight, a nobleman, or a lady of the court. More to the fun factor, we also added a mobile siege game, in case anyone wants to conquer the fortress.
These are but a few of the interesting systems and applications installed inside the Royal Fortress. Besides the informative and educational factor, the interactive systems placed here will carry and immerse guests into the medieval ages, making their visit even more charming.
The Royal Fortress of Suceva is powered by its own history, it lives through it. The exhibit and the interactive systems tell this history very well and they offer visitors a wonderful and unique experience here in Romania.
