ABOUT
As many 1/3rd of creative students with dyslexia are discouraged from further education because of long, inaccessible reading lists. And 3/4 believe that the Unis aren't doing enough to help. We know that neurodiverse people thrive in creative fields - our challenge was to help bridge the gap between higher education and the creative industries by making long reading lists more accessible.
To make university course material more accessible for dyslexic students, we created a dyslexia-friendly e-reader. The platform is built around three pillars of multi-sensory information processing: dynamic text, real human audio and video. The platform integrates 'hacks' dyslexic people often use, such as a digital ruler, dyslexia friendly fonts and different colour backgrounds.
By end of last year, we had a database of 2,400 users, and those who were using were noticing the difference it made to them - "...without a doubt, the best e-reader I have ever used." But beyond that, we were also creating a stir in the industry, inspiring the front cover story in Campaign magazine on neurodiversity, and encouraging key industry figures, such as Aidan McClure to become more vocal about their ND status.
