ABOUT
In the city center of Bratislava, the typical urban environment, we may encounter houses consisting of two to three floors that are located in the areas comprised of newer multi-storey buildings. Whereas efficiency of land use is significantly lower than in their surroundings. Therefore, hardly anyone is interested in these buildings which means they are at risk of demolition.
The main issue of aforementioned houses is an inefficient use of land. Therefore, we try to come up with solutions to save these houses and continue the tradition of the original townhouses. Building a house above the original one is a mean of retaining the house with its original untouched expression while improving utilization of land, thus increasing effectiveness and profitability of use.
The 1st floor of townhouses was generally used for craft, trade and work, 2nd and higher floors were reserved for housing. In our proposal we return to this principle. The upper house is for housing and the lower house could be used for work. The area reserved for work will be separated from the housing, while remaining in close proximity.
