ABOUT

The project was to create a poster in honor of Norman Bethune.

Norman Bethune was a Canadian thoracic surgeon, member of the Communist Party of Canada, who came to international prominence first for his service as a frontline trauma surgeon supporting the Republican faction during the Spanish Civil War, and later for his work supporting the Communist Party of China's during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Bethune helped bring modern medicine to rural China and often treated sick villagers as much as wounded soldiers.

I did the poster in two colours (black and red), plus the white of the background. Playing with the good contrast that these colours have, gave a lot of strength to the poster and gives us a visual clue as to the political ideas of the character. About the style of the poster I based on the political posters of that time and it came out great.

The poster was in an exhibit of influential characters of the 19th century and also sold as a poster.
