ABOUT

'The Kesey Signal' × 2Advanced - A Transmission From 1999

Field Station 02 is a microsite collaboration & love letter by 2Advanced & The FWA (Favourite Website Awards) to the early web, and a chance to enter a drawing for 1 of 7 limited edition KeySey signal posters designed by 2Advanced, autographed by Rob Ford (FWA) + Eric Jordan (2advanced). Transporting you back to 1999 and bringing back the bitmap fonts!

To launch The Kesey Signal, the debut fiction novel from Rob Ford, founder of FWA, 2Advanced Studios jumped in to build a companion microsite that didn't just promote the book, but helped bring the audience into the world it takes place in. The novel is a 1999 cyber-noir thriller drawn from the ruins and realities of the early internet, and 2Advanced Studios appears inside the plot itself. That made the collaboration inevitable: a piece of the story, built by a studio inside the story.

The result is a fully interactive 1999-era terminal login experience that drops the viewer back into the era of dial-up modems, bitmap fonts, and the unmistakable hum of a web that hadn't yet been flattened.

A short, in-character microsite that treats the book as a real transmission: visitors move through a few narrative screens, complete a light signal-themed interaction, then unlock a wallpaper pack via a Pelican-style case and keypad tied to in-book lore. A separate path invites proof-of-purchase upload for a limited dual-signed poster run tied to the story’s “Box 7” beat.

The microsite needed to honor the novel's world, give FWA's audience a tactile artifact of that lost web, and re-establish 2Advanced's role as the studio that helped shape the visual grammar of the early internet.
