ABOUT

Young multi-award winning jewellery designer and Central St Martin’s graduates Richard Farbey and Joshua Myszczynski came to me with the most incredible pieces of conceptual jewellery I've ever seen. Each item is an artwork in it's own right. So I was honoured to be tasked with bringing out the life in these pieces by photographing them. Throughout my career there have occasionally been products that become lively characters in front of the lens and it’s always a delight (like the Pepperami animal that came with a puppeteer!), so it was lovely to shoot these items and help tell their stories.

As usual, if I do my job well, you don't see my work, you see the item I'm photographing. In that sense these are easy for me, they steal the show immediately.

In practice, for now, we had to keep mainly to the basic images on black background so that retailers can use them too and so that they are consistent on the website. We all agree though that there is great potential to "play" with them more in the future. One challenge with items like this is that they are not mass produced, indeed some of them are unique, so there is only a short window of opportunity to capture them before they are sold or sent to an international retailer.
