ABOUT
Springsummer is a digitally treated short film documenting Kei Kagami’s Spring/Summer’04 collection. Fashion photographer Enamul Hoque and graphic designer Matt Moate have previously worked together on numerous photographic projects but this film represents their first collaboration in moving image.
Springsummer seeks to explore the emotive undercurrents of Kagami’s groundbreaking work in a delicate fusion of imagery and abstraction played out to a blistering original soundtrack by sound designer Rob Mullender.
Kei Kagami's use of innovative materials and conceptual, structural lines set him apart from many of the British fashion pack. Through his Spring/Summer ’04 collection Kagami explores the tension that exists between humans and machines and his reminiscences of a pre-computer chip world. Each outfit’s mechanical motion subverts form and movement in a pastiche of couture’s constraint and formality. In his own words: “If I were to give a title to this collection, I would call it The Good Old Days - Industrial Revolution”.
‘Springsummer’ The Fashion of Kei Kagami was originally screened at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) as part of Onedotzero8 under ‘fashion + new moving image’ category then it went touring around the world with Ondedotzero8 film festival.
This Fashion film is also part of the British Council film archive.
