Emanuele Piarulli Menswear Designer

ABOUT

The brief required to create a 6 pieces collection including accessories that was commercial, well executed and that explored a contemporary topic in a piercing and organic way.
The inspiration for my collection 'Manifesto for a New Italian Masculinity' birthed out at the intersection between the primordial need to express one's identity through our body and the feeling of unsettlement for not identifying with the hegemonic notion of masculinity.
The first part of the creative process consisted in styling pieces from a traditional menswear sartorial repertoire in different, unusual ways to generate innovative yet wearable ideas.
The final line-up is composed by revisited pieces of tailoring and outerwear inspired by the tradition, very up to date in term of style yet timeless, as they could probably still be worn in a decade.
The collection was picked to show at Graduate Fashion Week, where it caught the attention of Sarah Mower and through which I got offered a position at Alexander McQueen
