ABOUT

For this project, I chose to focus on Jimi Hendrix. I used a variety of techniques to create images only using typography.

For my fictitious Netflix documentary poster, I used a greyscale photograph of Jimi Hendrix, and placed bold text in (the lyrics of Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile) over it, and then used Photoshop layer blends to erase the parts of the image which weren't covered by text. I then used white and red text, in the typeface Bebas Neue for the documentary information, which is in line with Netflix's branding.

For my orange poster design, I used the text "VOODOO CHILD" as a photoshop brush, and used it to fill in Hendrix's features. I then added texture in the background, and a 1960's style typeface for the title. I chose an orange and purple colour scheme as I saw this in many posters from the Sixties.

For the guitar design, I used the Procreate warp tool to fit some of Hendrix's song titles and lyrics into the outline of a photograph of his guitar. I then put this over an orange and purple psychedelic swirling sunburst background, and used a different 1960's typeface.
