ABOUT

Wangarĩ Maathai - Touch the Ground

One of the things that I love the most is telling stories of women who have contributed in some way to our planet and history.

Wangarĩ Muta Maathai was an environmentalist, activist, and the first African woman to receive the Noble Peace Prize.
She was affectionately called ‘Mama Miti’ - ‘Mother of trees’ in Swahili - for planting millions of trees and giving hope to women and entire communities.
By founding the Green Belt Movement, she contributed to women’s emancipation, demonstrating that touching the Earth it’s not just a physical act, but a political, spiritual, revolutionary one.
Her legacy lives on in the 30 million trees planted (now 51 million), but above all in the idea that every gesture, even the smallest, can generate change.

“It’s the little things citizens do. That’s what will make the difference. My little thing is planting trees.”
Wangari reminds us that caring for the Earth is also an act of love towards humanity.
