ABOUT

Berta Isabel Cáceres Flores was a Lenca woman, an activist, and a mother.
She chose to protect her people's land with her body, voice, and soul.

Berta was as ‘wild’ as her land.
She fought against injustice and racism, against hydroelectric projects and the savage exploitation of indigenous lands in Honduras. Projects imposed without consent, financed by foreign banks and governments that wanted to erase culture, community, and nature.

She founded COPINH and received international awards. But also threats and intimidation.
‘They fear us because we are fearless.’ And that fear managed to stop her in 2016, killing her.

But her voice has never been silenced and lives on in the fights of those who loved her.

Today, Berta is a symbol.
A cry demanding justice, reminding us that the environmental fight is also a fight against criminal powers and indifference.

‘Despierta humanidad, ya no hay tiempo.’
(Wake up, humanity, there is no more time.)
