ABOUT

As a child I was told that inside the shells you could hear the sound of the sea and I was fascinated! ????

But there were people who heard it by living on it and studying its waves.
Anita Caracotchian Conti was one of these people and she also knew how to listen to its needs.

The first woman oceanographer in France, Anita was an explorer and sailed the oceans alongside fishermen, living for months on board, learning about the sea from the hands of those who challenged it every day.

In a purely male world, she broke new routes.
She mapped the seabed, documented ancient practices, created the first fishing maps and recounted the harsh dignity of fishermen.

Back in the 1940s, she sounded an alarm that few wanted to hear: the danger of industrial overfishing, the fragile balance of the oceans that was breaking down.

Anita left behind books, photographs, films and a voice that still invites us today to stop, to listen to the deep call of the sea.

Not as masters, but as simple guests.
