About me

I am writing in response to the position of Medical Writer. Having just recently completed a BBSRC-GSK Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering PhD studentship at King's College London, regularly presenting and explaining novel concepts before audiences of all backgrounds (from non experts, academics to clinicians), very early on became one of my favourite aspects of my doctorate. In addition to engaging and interacting with other research groups across departments, universities as well as industry (having worked at GSK for six months). A PhD of course also requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in the written form, providing the in depth scientific knowledge to write a variety of products- papers, posters and abstracts. I have also inevitably acquired strengths in project organisation and management, working meticulously and independently, in this often highly pressured environment.

Away from the bench, I have already been fortunate enough also to experience roles, most recently at Bitech Factory GmbH and previously with Caretta, largely focusing on client engagement, successfully networking prospective clients or fellow researchers at international exhibitions (including Gitex in Dubai), also writing and editing the companies websites, brochures and newsletters for the English speaking market.

Ultimately having found myself increasingly drawn to the elements of my PhD involving the written and verbal communication of research, particularly the presentation of my work at international conferences and have created a blog reviewing 'hot topics' and misconceptions in science and STEM research, I have decided that it is the right time for me to take a step away from the lab. I have a strong scientific background, from respiratory health to neurodegenerative diseases, and whilst having loved developing subject expertise over the course of my doctorate, I would leap at the prospect to once again learn about different diseases and exciting therapeutic strategies. I am confident the skills my background has provided will be entirely suited to help shape innovative and exciting projects as a Medical Writer. I can be contacted at or via telephone at . Thank you for your consideration, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Elif Melis Bicer
