ABOUT
Signified is a publication that presents and discusses the powerful roles props and set design play in film. The book discusses the significance of five objects from five different films: Pan’s Labyrinth, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Blade Runner, American Beauty and Pulp Fiction. The other component of Signified is a collection of five significant spaces within four alternative films, The Cube, The Shining, American Psycho, and two spaces from Fight Club.
The book consists of a sceenprinted cover sourced from paper company G.F Smith titled Electric Blood (Gmund Action line), a unique stock that blurs the lines between fabric and card. The book features various journal articles and writing dedicated to explaining the function of individual props, as well as 7 fold-out feature interviews from professionals working within the creative industry such as Paula Benson from Form, to professors of film theory such as Renira Gambarato.
