Dear Sir or Madame,

I would like to apply for the Production Assistant role I have read after searching for opportunities with digital media companies following my redundancy earlier this year. I'm interested in progressing the practical knowledge and skills I have gained from working as a Production Editor for the open access publisher BioMed Central to a new career in digital publishing.

I have enjoyed the responsibility of managing a portfolio of journals and the valuable skills I have taken from training with our company's workflow technology and office suite packages, this included Outlook, FTP database, HTML coding and desktop publishing and was combined with the CMS and applications used to resolve and respond to production issues From this I had learnt how articles are formatted and monitored during the production stages, and how an Open Access publisher coordinates its departments to manage web content and increase targets through a steady rate of publication. Whilst working with the production team, this enabled me to develop my professional approach, time-keeping and organizational skills when assisting authors and colleagues, and when coordinating projects with colleagues regarding company policies and the procedures for publication. One of the benefits has been working with stakeholders to improve the article content quality and submission turnaround times while receiving feedback on KPI objectives and where this was used to generate further developments with our web development team.

Whilst at University I had developed my written and verbal skills to an academic level and learnt how to time-manage when preparing critical discussions for deadlines, seminars and power-point presentations. This focused on cinema and literary discourses and is where I learnt to read texts from a critical perspective. I had also gained experience from working in a creative team for the Student Union through where I had written production outlines for short films and editorial tasks for the college newspaper. I have a strong interest in social issues and media technology, which I have enjoying learning about from reading article submissions and discussions with my colleagues in production.
