The solar calendar is a visual depiction of the procession of the sun across the sky over the year. Each band represents the rising and setting of the sun over the course of a single month. The time at which the sun rises and sets at the beginning and the end of each month determines the thickness of the band, illustrating the amount by which daylight is either increasing or decreasing throughout the year.
