About us
Dramatic Recovery is a mental health arts organisation that uses the medium of the arts to improve, explore and address mental health wellbeing. We use the arts to break down the barriers of difficult conversations and make these experiences less intimidating and more approachable. Our unique approach to educating individuals of all ages on mental health helps people become more engaged with their mental health and look after their own wellbeing in a fun and creative way. We work within four different sectors: social prescribing, community arts, educational work and verbatim theatre.
Social Prescribing is a non-clinical intervention that is prescribed by a GP or Health Hub instead of medication. It encourages patients who are experiencing poor mental health, isolation or anxiety to do something creative and meet likeminded people going through similar experiences. We are socially prescribed by award winning social prescribing charity, Care Merseyside within the Knowsley and Liverpool Borough.
Community Arts is working with mainly young people in deprived areas to encourage mental health conversations to be part of their everyday life and not be seen as taboo. We do this through craft, play and music and drama workshops also.
Educational Work is where we work within schools and youth groups to educate and raise awareness of different mental health issues and how we can improve them using the arts.
Verbatim Theatre is where we record real stories from our beneficiaries to help raise awareness of different mental health conditions and give beneficiaries a platform to share their story on stage.
