DLSM Studio's latest project with award-winning immersive, cocktail bar brand, The Alchemist, saw the delivery of an exciting new drinks and dining venue located in the heart of London.

Building on the success of its 2022 redesign for The Alchemist’s Spinningfields site (in Manchester) and further subsequent venues amongst their 24-site estate, the agency has strategically evolved the brand's DNA, crafting a compelling design narrative centred around cosmic alchemy which draws inspiration from humanity's enduring fascination with our origins and the exploration of the universe.

Whilst every venue's design plays on this enthralling idea, there is a collaborative desire (between the agency and client) to ensure each site reflects an element of locality to create unique identities across their portfolio.

The captivating design for the new bar takes influence from the historic roots of the Victorian era - a pivotal period that catalysed scientific breakthrough. Paying homage to the significant strides made during that time, with the pioneering discovery of parallax, which accurately measures and maps out the stars in relation to us, providing a revolutionary understanding that the cosmos is a vast three-dimensional space, our design ingeniously plays with perspective and illusion throughout, incorporating this transfixing revelation.

As a hospitality brand that’s renowned for its innovation, the delivery of an immersive guest experience was imperative.

An enchanting entrance tunnel sets the tone for the journey ahead, guiding guests through a celestial portal into a realm where time and space converge. Illuminated by dramatic lighting, the tunnel beckons with its ethereal glow, inviting patrons to embark on a transcendent voyage through the cosmos.

At the heart of the venue, the dramatic central bar, adorned with a symmetrical arched design lighting feature brings a theatrical feel to the space as it sits against a backdrop of moody hues, vivid bursts of colours and metallic finishes.

A bespoke feature wall is adorned with a contemporary mural, inspired by a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, and celestrial formations. Whilst curated solar manifestations and space-inspired custom lighting deliver subtle nods to astronomical phenomena, deep colour palettes, opulent materials and intentional curved forms instil a touch of glamour and intrigue.

Our strategic approach to space utilization and design elements has transformed The Alchemist Victoria into a premier destination for both social gatherings and intimate moments, maximising the commercial opportunities by delivering an attractive all-day offering that stands out within in City.

A highlight of design is the mirrored secret booth area, offering a secluded space for groups to revel in the night's festivities or a couple to enjoy an intimate date night away from prying eyes. Additionally, the placement of a large masterclass table at the front of the space facilitates creative cocktail classes, adding an interactive element to the bar's offerings whilst a beautiful deep blue 8-seater curved booth, provides groups with their own private enclave for their own exclusive dining experience. Complemented by various seated zones throughout the venue, guests are presented with visually engaging spaces tailored to their preferences, whether they seek a relaxed drink, a delicious dinner, or a fun evening of dancing with friends.

The central U-shaped bar was deliberately placed in line with the manifestations on the glazing to further play with perspective whilst maximizing the venue’s street presence and sight-lines, enticing visitors from across the street to step inside.

This new, exciting destination is poised to further establish The Alchemist’s every-growing presence in London's competitive scene, boasting inventive cocktails, emerging DJs, and an unbeatable ambiance from dawn to dust.
