ABOUT

Commissioned to create 2 Diptychs in the Raddison Blue Presidential Suite in Nairobi Kenya.

INSPIRATION

The inspiration for this style was derived from the idea of an explorers sketchbook. The sketchbook has been the one constant in explorers' kits for centuries of adventure. Often private, they are records of immediate experiences and discoveries, and in their pages we can see what the explorers themselves encountered. Kept by intrepid men and women as they journeyed perilous and unknown environments—frozen wastelands, high mountains, barren deserts, and dense rainforests—with their senses wide open. These diptychs aim to be a reflection on what travel and adventure once was and bringing forward the old art of discovery into the modern era.

CREATIVE VISION

Monochrome black digital illustrations, with highly contrasted pen and ink effect. Each of the pieces will be uniform in their style depicting a marriage of both bold black inked lines and delicate hatching techniques. The appeal of this style is to create a clean finished appearance while still portraying an authentic sketchbook quality. Each diptych will be created with the visual effect that the subject matter will be communicating with each other.
