I was approached by Human & Rousseau, a prominent publisher of children's and youth literature under NB Publishers in Cape Town, South Africa, to collaborate on a unique project. As part of their upcoming youth novel, they required a simple, hand-drawn map to help orient readers in a fictional world. The map would depict two adjacent towns, and needed to cover a double-page spread.

The brief specified a line-drawing style with an informal, hand-drawn feel—perfectly suited to my ink and linework approach. The map was to highlight key landmarks, with special attention to the surrounding ocean and mountains, using subtle textures to bring these elements to life while keeping the overall illustration simple and clean.

This project was a wonderful opportunity to fuse storytelling and visual design, bringing an imagined landscape to life in a way that is both accessible and engaging for younger readers.
