ABOUT
As part of a week long project in one of Southampton's central parks, I was asked to design an interactive mural to engage the local community with a thought provoking message coming through.
I came up with this "paint by numbers" mural, and provided different colours of paint each day for the members of the public to come and paint with. Each section was numbered and by the end of the week, the full message was visible. The word "LIFE" jumps out in colour from the otherwise greyscale images. This now hangs in the charity's office.
I also created a hanging wall of fabric in the branding colours, and each day developed and started to hang snapshots of the event from the previous day. By the end, it was covered in photographs telling the story of what had been happening.
I also worked with another designer and photographer to mount people's stories on cardboard backgrounds which we tied to the poles of the bandstand for passers by to have a look at and read.
Below these images are photographs I have taken of Mount Shasta (California) and of Barbados' national flower. These were contenders I considered submitting for a charity auction which I put in the pieces you see here of the boats, plus a blank canvas which the highest bidder could choose what I would paint for them.
