ABOUT

This was a 3rd Year University Project which I decided to give a little revamp in 2015 (maybe to prove to myself that I had improved since then). I remember enjoying this project at the time, but giving it a face-lift brought me great joy. It was a conceptual project only and was never intended to actually go into production, however, every part was carefully considered for this purpose.

Obi is trendy, compact and well considered for the environment for which it is intended. The additional pot is a very targeted and specific additional feature for two main reasons. a) it is designed for this particular stove. It nestles in the negative space perfectly and therefore doesn't take up any unnecessary valuable space. b) when students move into residence it is likely that they will have to purchase a few kitchen appliances in one go. Having the pot be part of the set is a invaluable.

The main shell is blanked, pressed and coated white with a heat resistent powder. The foot that fits over the edge of the shell is injection moulded and creates a rubberised, non-slip texture as well as a safe and comfortable gripping area in the arches. The inner structure is also pressed and is the key component in assembling the entire unit. The inner structure houses all the standard componentry, has integrated heat vents, and pulls the assembly together with a single bolt.

The pot complements the design of the stove. It has three handles which correlate with the 3 arches of the stove. Each handle is co-moulded with a rubberised and heat retarded silicon to prevent the user from burning their hands. The tactile rounded groove on the bottom edge of these handles, as well as the chamfer on the top for thumb placement, makes for a really comfortable grip.
